A VISIT TO THE MORTUARY. By Tobe Eze

A VISIT TO THE MORTUARY.

INTRODUCTION.
The end product of our struggling here in this physical world is death. Whatever we gather on this earth, whatever we think we have and are will surely be defeated one day by death. Death is cure for all our ill health and sound health. People go about doing anything on earth to get firm, wealth, name and many other prestigious positions on earth and tend to forget that death is real. Martin Heidegger is a philosopher who talked about authentic death and he explained it with one being conscious of his personal death. When one recognizes that death is private then dasein (one) will come back to itself. When we realize that we are to end up this passing world one day, we will try to live an authentic life. WE ARE ALL ONE.
Why do people like to put the dichotomy of you are there, I am here, you are from there I am from here, you are white I am black, you are rich I am poor, you are lower in class I am higher in class and many other things people use to put division among mean? They use people as a means to an end not an end itself which is bad. What Martin Bubber calls “I” “IT” instead of “I” “THOU”. When we apply “I thou” then that is when we recognize that we are one. But when we apply “I it” then we practice division. Because you are higher today is never a prerequisite that you will be tomorrow. Someone you take as in the lowest level may rise up suddenly and instantly to the topmost level as it is recorded in the sacred scripture. (Sirach 11:21). See every one as one and things will go well with us. Jesus prayed for that oneness before leaving the world because of its importance and we mortal men are now trying to make it less important. (John 17:21) Remove classism, racism, tribalism, ethnicism, ụmụnnaanyịzm, nwannemuizm and every other zm(sm) we use to bring division among ourselves.
WHAT IS EVIL IS EVIL.
Still in the line of using others as means to an end. Some use their fellow human being to get what they want in life no matter what it takes. We have many rich men and women in every nook and crony of our communities and majority of them made their money through dubious and diabolic means. Some do not hesitate to sacrifice anyone they are asked to bring for sacrifice just to get firm, money, houses, cars, respect, positions and many other things. Some sacrifice their own blood to get all these things. Some use themselves for that. Some dup, kidnap, become gay, and so on just because these passing things.
After all these things, they will go to churches to pledge and donate a huge amount of money. I do not know if they think they can bribe God. Some after using blood of your fellow human being to make money will go about helping people here and there, making names and taking many titles and people will call them all sort of good names and they will say that the voice of the people is the voice of God. It is a serious lie. Ihe ọjọ bụ ihe ọjọ nothing can change it except leaving it to embrace ihe ọma. Futon J. Sheen said that if you come to a group of 50 person, when 49 is against 1 in something that is evil, the number does not change it, no matter the number, Evil is Evil.
SUSPECTED CAUSES.
There are things I suspect that they bring about this division among us: They are: Envy, greediness and many others, but I will limit myself to these two.
ENVY.
When one sees another as a treat to him/herself, one will develop one of the seven capital or deadly sins called envy. One sees every person around as enemies. Why should this person have this and I do not have it. Why should his name be popular while my own is not? Why should he/she be recognized and I am left out? God created us differently and we have our different assignments on this earth to carry out. Everyone is unique. When one sings well, you will complain, he thinks he is the only one who can sing. When one excels in academics, you will complain, any person can make it. When one gets a position in life, you will comment, he has bribed them. No good comments come out from you whenever someone gets a good thing in life. You cannot be yourself and another person at the same time. The bible also encourages us to rejoice with those rejoicing and mourn with those mourning (Romans 12:15), but in your own case it is different.
GREEDINESS.
Okoro erughi eru wara ọgọdọ, ikuku bịa, eburu ya ma buru ọgọdọ. Sometimes people go for what are not theirs because of greediness. I want to build house, buy car, marry and many other things this year by fire by force. In Latin Hic et nunc. Why not wait for the appointed time? It is this greediness that push people to put their hands in many evil things to make sure they get what they want in life. Ma ọchara acha ma ọchaghị. There is time for everything as the bible recorded. (Ecclesiastes 3). But people are no more interested in obeying that because of their selfish interest.
SUGGESTED SOLUTION.
I have just one solution to suggest to all these things and the solutions is.
A VISIT TO THE MORTUARY.

A friend of mine told me a story of what he experienced on the day they buried his father. He started like this.
In the morning of that day we went to the mortuary to get the remains of my father. When we reached there, they asked us to come in. when we went in, I was very surprised for what I saw there. There is this man in my village that was known for his evil deeds. He was terrorizing people both with charm and with physical power. No man talks to him or say anything bad about him before him, for if you try that, then be ready to take people’s messages to their ancestors. He died three days after my father’s death and he was also taken to the same mortuary where we took my father to. When I entered there, I saw this man naked, lying on the floor and I asked myself, is it all? After listening to him, I came to the conclusion that a visit to the mortuary may change some person’s lives. When you visit the mortuary and see both young and old, rich and the poor in the same room and floor, you will notice that all these things we fight to get in this world are really vanity. The respect you were commanding when you were alive, no person is ready to give it to you when you die, the car that you drive, you cannot do that again and many other things you do which you cannot do again.

If that is so, we have to come back to our senses. We should come back to ourselves as dasien comes back to itself through ontological anxiety. We should just visit the mortuary and see how men and women are lying lifelessly there and we will come back and amend our lives. THANKS.
