Just like yesterday and a year is gone. Praise be to our Lord Jesus Christ both now and forever more. Amen. Otito diri Jesu. Na ndu ebebe. Glory to God. Honour to Mary.
When I was small, in 2004, I was in the kitchen with my elder sister on 15th January. We were singing with 15th January 2004. At a point she asked me where will I be in 2014 and I shouted kpaoooo! Too far. But now, 2014 has long ago passed. It is a thing of joy. Years are now running so fast, and all are to the glory of God. It is not by our power or our might but through his merciful love and care. Chukwu dalu. Keep us forever in your side both in this passing world and the everlasting one coming. Before I go into what the Church is celebrating today let me talk about New Year. It is a thing of joy and we must thank God for this opportunity given to us to see New Year again. Someone went into bed with someone on 31st December and when morning came, the later did not wake up again. We are here now witnessing another year, we must thank God for that. If you are thanking God, we have to express it so that we may at least see it in action through what we are going to do today. St. Paul said we are now new creatures, let us today take up new beginning and make positive changes and it shall be well with us this year. (2Corinthians 5:17).
About the solemnity we have today, I am not going to trace the heresies that have tried to prove this solemnity wrong. I am just to tell you, if you believe that Jesus Christ is God and was born through Mary. Then know it that Mary is the mother of God.
We all know how we react when our mothers come into play, if you have a good mother like Mary, use it to measure what Mary is doing for us. Believe it or not she intercedes for her children before his Son. I am proud to be her son. Be proud to be one of her children and pray to her, you will never regret it.
In the first reading the Lord brought out how we shall be blessed. The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace! All these blessings will follow us this year if we obey God.
When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. As proof that you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!" So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then also an heir, through God. This year is our own redemption year and we are now sons no more slaves.

It will only take us pondering on the words of God in our hearts and acting them out like our mother Mary did in the gospel. Through the intercession of Mary mother of God, mother of the Church, mother of the world and our mother, we ask the Almighty God to bless, keep, protect, guide, provide and direct us in this New Year and all the days of our lives through Christ our Lord. Amen. THANKS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
