THEME: GIVE YOURSELF A DEFINITION.
It is commonly said that, the way you dress is the way people will address you. In Igbo, Etu isi debe akwa gi ka I ga adina. We majorly give ourselves definition. Others who try to explain or define us are doing that based on what we have shown them that we are. No one talks from nothing. What occupies us gives us our definition and that is why Jesus is telling us that, out of the abundant of the heart, the mouth speaks.
Human beings, animals and even trees are known of what they produce. That a man is known as a wicked man is because he manifested wickedness, that a man is known as a good man is also because he manifested goodness, an animal is known dangerous is the product of the danger it brought out likewise a tree that produces sour fruit is known for that or sweet fruit for that. A certain woman from a certain place ones came to me to complain that children are running away from her. She told me that, the block rosary centre in their village was in an old woman’s house before. The old woman died and her children are not staying at home, so, the block rosary centre has to be taken to another place. It happened that her house was chosen. When the block rosary centre was brought to her house, the children stopped coming to prayers. When she approached them, they told her that they do not have chance. After sometimes, she heard that those children said that insofar the block rosary is in her house, they will not pray again. After telling me her story, I decided to go to those children myself to get the first hand information. When I interviewed those children, they told me lots of stories told to them and the ones they experienced themselves from the woman. How the woman insults people anyhow. How she treats people around her. When I met with the woman again, I told her that the problem lies in your fruit. She asked for solution, I told her that the only solution is change. On meeting the children again to see if anything can be done for them to start their normal prayers there, they refused and told me openly that the only solution is change of place of prayer. We tried all we could but all were in futility. The place of prayer was changed in order to save the faith of those children. It was a shameful thing to the woman and a graceful thing to the woman they packed to her house.
The first reading is talking about the fruit we bear likewise the gospel and the second reading is telling us about a part in many parts we can bear the fruit. Ask yourself what type of fruit you bear. The problem we have sometimes is that we do not normally accept that we are the problem. We will always complain about others and forget that we can also err. Many of us think that we are always the best, we bear the best fruit in the world and other always bear bad fruit. That is not always the case. We must access ourselves to see where we cause trouble and work towards it.
As we talk about fruit, we should bear in mind that all cannot bear the same fruit. There are different fruits we are to bear as individuals. Some bear good or bad fruit through mouth and so on. Check if you bear a good or bad fruit. When you are bearing good fruit, there may be tribulations, just take what the second reading said as your consolation and you shall make that heaven we are going towards (therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be firm, steadfast, always fully devoted to the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labour is not in vain).
THANKS AND HAPPY SUNDAY.
